This is a crack at M33.  I will most likely go back at this one.  I tried converting to 32-bit float in the beginning, but the image went full blown magenta on me, so I had to roll back to 16-bit Int.  Anybody have any idea why that might happen?  Anyway, I spent a fair bit of time messing with Synthetic Lums, localized sharpening, lot's of masking, color replacement, you name it.  The sky background got a bit mottled for my liking.

Exposures: 12x 600s

UPDATE: OK, I went back and improved the background and overall color/contrast.  I would appreciate some feedback from you more experienced folks.

Tim Lewis   Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the comment. It is an unmodified Canon (though I plan to send mine out soon I hope). I was able to pull that out with a combination of successive saturation with creative masking and opacity adjustments.

I have a question for you: Didn't you used to shoot with a DSLR? I am really struggling with getting correct color from Maxim. Can we discuss it via e-mail? Mine is timothylewis@cox.net.

Jeff Lunglhofer   Tim,

This is a truly outstanding image. . .one of the best I've seen of M33 with a Rebel. I can't believe how well you pulled out the Ha, is the camera modified??
